To clean up human feces, first put on disposable gloves and remove solids with paper towels, placing them in a plastic bag. 

 

Then, wipe the area with detergent and hot water to remove any residue, working from the outside in. 

 

For disinfection, use a freshly made bleach solution of about 1/3 cup bleach per gallon of water, or an EPA-approved disinfectant, and leave it on the surface for at least 10 minutes. 

 

Finally, dispose of all used materials in a plastic bag, and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. 

 

Before You Start

1. Gear Up:  Wear disposable gloves, a mask, and protective clothing to prevent contact with the feces and potential pathogens. 
Contain the Area:  If the feces are on the ground, gently cover the area with towels to minimize the aerosolization of germs. 
Gather Supplies:  You will need disposable gloves, paper towels or disposable cleaning cloths, a scraping tool, detergent, and an EPA-approved disinfectant or a freshly made bleach solution.
